What does PATH stand for?

From 1980 until 2014, PATH stood for Program for Appropriate Technology in Health. Now we are simply PATH.

When was PATH founded?

PATH was founded in 1977 as PIACT, or the Program for the Introduction and Adaptation of Contraceptive Technology. We have been known as PATH since 1981.

Who funds PATH’s work?

Our work is funded by foundations, governments, multilateral agencies, corporations, and individual investors. Project-specific foundation and government grants currently make up the greatest part of our operating budget. However, social enterprise investment by individuals and families is essential to developing new solutions. These dollars support PATH as a whole, allowing us to explore opportunities, test new strategies, and develop early prototypes. Learn more about investing in and partnering with PATH.

PATH is a global organization with a workforce of more than 3,000 people and offices in 20 countries: Belgium, China, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Myanmar, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, the United States, Vietnam, and Zambia. Our multidisciplinary, international work force has expertise in:

  • Public health, including applied behavioral communication, epidemiology, health system strengthening, and digital health.
  • Vaccines, drugs, diagnostics, and devices, including discovery and preclinical development, clinical trials and field evaluation, and regulatory affairs and operations.

Can PATH fund my nonprofit or program?

PATH is a nonprofit organization that does not grant funds to other programs, nonprofits, or individuals.

PATH Vaccine Solutions (PVS) is an affiliate of PATH that funds some projects conducted by PATH’s Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access. PVS is a nonprofit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and is a supporting organization of PATH.
